A Rubik’s Cube skydive record was set over Oceanside after 24-year-old Ishaan Hadkar solved two rotating puzzle cubes while descending from 13,000 feet.
Hadkar, who has solved puzzle cubes since age 10, attempted the Guinness World Record for the most rotating puzzle cubes solved during a single skydive.
His first attempt also marked his first jump from an aircraft. It ended early after one of the cubes broke apart during free-fall.
Hadkar said he did not know what to expect from skydiving and faced an unexpected setback when the cube failed mid-air. He boarded another aircraft and made a second attempt shortly afterwards.
The second jump succeeded. Hadkar solved one cube during freefall and completed the second after deploying his parachute.
He said strong winds, cloudy conditions and free-fall speeds of about 120 mph made the challenge difficult. He used the same solving method he uses on the ground, but had to grip the cubes more firmly against the wind.

Hadkar said receiving confirmation from Guinness World Records marked a major milestone in his 14-year cubing journey. He added that, after landing, he believed he could have solved as many as five cubes in one jump.
