Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ: TSLA) would need to surpass an $8.5 trillion market value and meet a series of operating targets for Chief Executive Elon Musk to unlock the full compensation package shareholders approved.
The incentive structure includes targets for selling 20 million vehicles and one million robots. Tesla must also reach 10 million subscriptions to its self-driving software and deploy one million robotaxis. Another milestone calls for $400 billion in profit.
The package is structured around equity awards rather than a conventional salary. Musk would receive additional Tesla shares if the company reaches the required valuation and operating milestones.
Robotaxis feature prominently across several targets because expanding the service could boost vehicle sales, software subscriptions and profit.

Tesla has also developed the Cybercab, a vehicle designed specifically for autonomous taxi operations without a steering wheel or pedals. The company expects autonomous vehicles to form part of its planned robotaxi network.

The scaling robotaxis could help Tesla progress toward several milestones simultaneously. However, it does not establish that the robotaxi business alone would be sufficient to deliver the $8.5 trillion valuation.
The targets are intended to be pursued over a 10-year period, making the package dependent on long-term execution rather than Tesla’s current market value.
