KARACHI, Sindh: The Mir Raza probe came under renewed criticism on Monday as family lawyer Jibran Nasir accused the current investigation team of mishandling evidence and failing to properly document key recoveries.
Speaking before the judicial commission headed by Sindh High Court Justice Omar Sial, Nasir said the 10-member investigation team had not maintained consistent representation throughout the proceedings and questioned whether it had properly prepared evidence memos. The commission is examining Mir Raza Ali’s death and possible negligence in the investigation.
Nasir questioned the chain of custody of Raza’s smartwatch, alleging that it had not been properly sealed. The family had previously raised objections to how the device was handled before it was eventually sent for forensic examination.

He also challenged investigators over gunshot-residue evidence and CCTV footage concerning Raza’s mobile phone. Nasir said police footage purportedly showed Raza discarding the phone, but questioned why the person who later recovered it was not visible.
The lawyer further questioned evidence-recovery memos, including the role of Assistant Sub-Inspector Faisal Rahim, and asked why police personnel were used as witnesses when family members were present. Nasir made these assertions during the proceedings, but the commission has not established them as findings.
Raza, a 25-year-old businessman, was found dead in Gulistan-e-Jauhar on July 29 after disappearing the previous day. A second post-mortem later concluded that the firearm injury entered through his back and that the findings were inconsistent with suicide.
