KARACHI, Sindh: Sindh school timings have been reduced by one hour across the province, with the change taking immediate effect while schools continue operating five days a week.
The Sindh School Education and Literacy Department issued revised instructions following Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah’s announcement that the additional teaching hour introduced earlier would be withdrawn.
The minister said students, particularly female students, had complained about difficulties caused by the extended school day. The extra hour had previously been added to compensate for academic disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and floods.
Schools will continue to follow a Monday-to-Friday workweek. The provincial government restored Saturday as a weekly holiday on August 5 after briefly moving institutions to a six-day schedule.
Heads of educational institutions and field officers have been directed to implement the revised working hours until further orders.

Separately, Education Minister Sardar Shah rejected a school-timing document circulating on social media as fake and misleading on Wednesday, urging institutions to rely on official departmental instructions.
