Karachi bus owners announced an indefinite strike from 18 June against heavy traffic challans and fines imposed on public transport vehicles. The Karachi Bus Owners Association confirmed this decision.
The association said it would suspend public transport services across Karachi. This action concerns excessive enforcement and rising financial penalties.
Farooq Ahmed, President of the Karachi Bus Owners Association, urged bus owners to keep their vehicles off the roads from 18 June. In addition, he said the strike would continue until authorities address the association’s concerns and accept its demands.
The planned Karachi public transport strike is expected to affect thousands of daily commuters. These are people who rely on buses for travel across the city.

The protest comes weeks after Karachi Traffic Police introduced stricter action against wrong-way driving in May.
DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah said wrong-way driving had become a serious concern in Karachi. He said traffic officers had been equipped with modern gadgets to issue challans more effectively across the city.
Officials also identified around 36 locations in Karachi where wrong-way violations are most frequent.
Pir Muhammad Shah said a Special Traffic Flow Unit would soon be deployed on key roads to improve traffic discipline.
