LAHORE, Punjab: A second Lahore sinkhole appeared on the newly reconstructed Khayaban-e-Firdousi Road within three days, raising fresh concerns over the Rs2 billion infrastructure project.

The road developed another collapse after the season’s first major rainfall, according to the supplied report. Authorities had completed the reconstruction after about 18 months of work.

The project aimed to address recurring road failures caused by leaking sewerage lines and provide a long-term solution for commuters.

However, two sinkholes have now emerged shortly after the rebuilt road opened. As a result, this has prompted questions about construction quality, drainage and underground sewerage repairs.

The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) and Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) were involved in the project, according to the report.

Neither agency’s formal response, an engineering assessment, nor details of immediate repair measures were included in the supplied information.

The latest collapse has also renewed scrutiny of the Punjab government’s oversight of the project. In addition, it has raised questions about whether authorities conducted sufficient testing before reopening the road.
