Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” box office has reached about $1.352 billion worldwide, overtaking “Deadpool & Wolverine” as the highest-grossing R-rated film, according to Universal Pictures.
The film surpassed the Marvel release’s $1.338 billion global total after a strong theatrical run in China helped close a gap of about $47 million that had stood only days earlier.
“The Odyssey” has earned $516.3 million domestically and more than $835 million internationally, according to the supplied figures. The film remains in cinemas, leaving its final worldwide total open to further growth.
The milestone also makes “The Odyssey” Nolan’s highest-grossing film, surpassing “The Dark Knight Rises.”
The nearly three-hour adaptation of Homer’s epic stars Matt Damon as Odysseus alongside Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway and Robert Pattinson. The production was shot on IMAX cameras and reportedly carried a $250 million production budget.
Ryan Reynolds, star and producer of “Deadpool & Wolverine,” acknowledged the record on social media and congratulated the cast and crew of “The Odyssey.”
