DALLAS, Texas, United States: President Donald Trump pledged a $5,000 “Trump dividend” to US adults if Republicans retain the House and Senate in November’s midterm elections.
Trump announced the proposal Wednesday night during the Republican Party’s first midterm convention at the American Airlines Centre in Dallas. His address began at 8 p.m. Central Time.
“If the Republicans win, you win with us and you get $5,000,” Trump told delegates, adding that the payment would be called the “Trump dividend.”

Trump did not explain how the payments would be funded or administered. Reuters estimated that paying $5,000 to roughly 270 million US adults would cost about $1.35 trillion, and that any broad federal payout would likely require congressional approval.
Trump also said recipients would have to spend the money in the United States. He has previously floated cash-payment proposals, including tariff-funded dividends, but none have become broad nationwide payments.
