Accountability Court has declared Federal Finance Minister absconder in a reference related to having assets beyond his sources of income.
The court has ordered Dar to pay surety bonds of Rs. 0.5 million. The bench further remarked that the minister’s properties will be confiscated if he fails to do so.
Judge Mohammad Basheer heard the reference against the Finance Minister at Islamabad’s Judicial Complex on Monday.
NAB Prosecutor, in his arguments, Imran Shafiq pleaded the court to declare the minister absconder.
He said that Dar’s medical report stated that he has been advised three weeks of rest. He added that six weeks have passed.
Shafiq then said that there is nothing wrong with Dar, according to the reported.
The Finance Minister’s counsel Qausen Mufti produced a new medical report in the hearing and informed the court that his client has to undergo more test and they are waiting for the MRI report as well.
Dar’s lawyer went on to say that NAB, despite the court’s orders, did not get the medical report verified.
Mufti, responding to pleas of declaring Dar an absconder in the reference, said that the summon orders were sent to his Lahore address but he is not living there for two years.
He asked, “His London address is mentioned on the medical report. The summon was not delivered on his London address, If the court knows where the suspect is then how can they be declared fugitive.”
NAB Prosecutor stated that that the court has to look whether the suspects is aware of the legal actions against him or not. The suspec is fully aware of the case against him.
Former Deputy Prosecutor General NAB Qazi Misbah appreared in the court on behalf of Dar and said that he wants to testify on behalf of him but the court refused as he was not a party in the case.
