Indian cricket icon Virat Kohli has eclipsed another monumental record, surpassing the legendary Sachin Tendulkar by scoring the fastest 27,000 runs in international cricket.
Kohli achieved this remarkable feat during a Test match against Bangladesh in Kanpur on Monday, marking his 27,000th run in his 594th inning. This milestone establishes him as the only batsman globally to reach 27,000 international runs in fewer than 600 innings.
Previously, the record was held by Sachin Tendulkar, who reached 27,000 runs in his 623rd inning. Other notable cricketers close to this record include Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara, who achieved his 27,000th run in his 648th inning, and Australia’s former captain Ricky Ponting, who reached the mark in his 650th inning.
Sachin Tendulkar, renowned for his prolific career, was the first player in ODI and Test formats to score 100 international centuries, amassing 51 in Tests and 49 in ODIs. In comparison, Virat Kohli has compiled 50 centuries in ODIs and 29 in Tests, bringing his total to 79 centuries. This achievement highlights Kohli’s consistency and excellence and cements his status as one of the all-time greats in cricket history.
