ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday summoned Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan in the Imran Khan hospital case after the Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) sought the record of proceedings pending before the apex court.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Shahid Waheed, with Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim, resumed petitions concerning the jailed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder’s medical treatment and family meetings.
Additional Attorney General Rana Asad told the bench that the FCC, a day earlier, had called for the Supreme Court record under Article 175-E while hearing appeals by three Adiala Jail inmates seeking private-hospital facilities similar to those granted to Khan.
Justice Waheed asked whether the attorney general was available and directed him to appear personally before further arguments were heard. PTI lawyer Salman Akram Raja was present for Khan.

The Supreme Court had on August 18 ordered that Khan be shifted to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for examination and treatment by a multidisciplinary medical board, with Dr Uzma Khan and physician Dr Faisal Sultan allowed to remain associated with his care.
Dr Uzma later filed contempt proceedings alleging that the August 18 directions had not been fully implemented. Those proceedings were fixed for September 16 alongside the main health and family-access cases.
The FCC’s request raises a separate jurisdictional question over which court should deal with constitutional issues arising from the case.
