CHICAGO, United States: The Trott Centre rural students initiative launched with a USD 100 million gift from Byron and Tina Trott to expand college access, financial aid and career support.
The University of Chicago said the gift will establish the Trott Centre for Excellence in Rural America. It anchors a 10-year, USD 300 million initiative focused on students from rural areas and small towns.
The centre will work to expand access to the university while strengthening support for students through graduation.
It will also focus on career pathways by connecting students with employers and providing advisory support as they move from college into the workforce.

The USD 100 million contribution came through Trott Family Philanthropies. University materials describe the gift as the foundation for the broader USD 300 million effort.
Byron Trott’s support for rural education reflects his own background in a small Missouri town. The initiative also builds on his previous involvement with programs including rootEd Alliance and the STARS College Network.
