U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he would extend the Iran ceasefire until Tehran submits a proposal and both sides conclude discussions.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he made the decision after Pakistan asked Washington to delay further attacks and give Iranian leaders and representatives time to produce what he described as a unified proposal.
Trump said he had directed the U.S. military to maintain the blockade while staying prepared for further action if talks fail.
“I have therefore directed our Military to continue the Blockade and, in all other respects, remain ready and able, and will therefore extend the Ceasefire until such time as their proposal is submitted, and discussions are concluded, one way or the other,” Trump wrote.
The announcement places Pakistan at the centre of the latest diplomatic effort and signals that Washington is leaving open a narrow window for negotiations with Tehran.
For now, the extension suggests the United States wants to maintain military pressure while allowing time for a possible Iranian response.
