KARACHI, Sindh: The Karachi digital parking system is nearing completion and is expected to become operational at designated Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) parking lots within days. Mayor Murtaza Wahab said this.

Wahab said in a social media statement that KMC had already abolished parking fees on KMC roads. He added that the new automated receipt system would apply only to designated parking facilities.

The mayor said the system aims to make parking fee collection more transparent. Moreover, it will protect motorists from additional or unauthorised charges by contractors.

KMC also expects the automated receipt mechanism to create a digital record of parking transactions. This will help reduce revenue leakage and the risk of funds being misappropriated.

The Smart Parking system will include digital ticketing, cashless payment options, and real-time information on parking availability. It will also provide enhanced monitoring and security at covered locations.

A KMC spokesperson said the initiative was intended to respond to Karachi’s growing parking needs. At the same time, it will expand the city’s digital civic infrastructure.

The Karachi Mayor has not specified which parking lots are included in the pilot or given an exact launch date.
