Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan’s new chief Farooq Sattar escaped from any major injury from an accident on Sunday night that left his vehicle “completely destroyed” on Super Highway.

Farooq Sattar was returning to Karachi from Hyderabad along with other party representatives when his car turned turtle near Nooriabad due to ‘overspeeding’.

The MQM leader’s vehicle somersaulted at least five times before it hit a kerb. His four security guards were also injured in the mishap.

Spokesperson for Liaquat National Hospital Dr Anjum Rizvi, said that medical tests of the MQM Pakistan chief showed that the accident had not inflicted any major injury on his body. He further said that Farooq Sattar would be kept in the hospital for 3-4 days under direct medical care and supervision of doctors.

“He complained to us that he was feeling pain on the back of his neck,” said Dr Anjum Rizvi. “However, his hopes were high and he said that he would leave the hospital only after recovering fully.”

Dr Anjum Rizvi also revealed that CT scan and ultrasound scan of Farooq Sattar were also conducted which showed no major injury had taken place in the accident.  Anjum Rizvi disclosed that Farooq Sattar had been given a dose of medicine which would enable him to sleep.

“No one is allowed inside the ward of Dr Farooq Sattar,” he said.

Earlier, Khawaja Izharul Hassan had stated that Sattar was out of danger and was being shifted to a hospital.

“He is being moved to a hospital in Karachi, his condition is out of danger,”  Khawaja Izharul Hassan, a senior leader of the MQM told Geo News by telephone. The MQM Pakistan chief was shifted to Liaquat National Hospital for further medical treatment.

The incident occurred near Nooriabad on the Superhighway when the MQM leader was returning from Hyderabad along with his comrades and security guards.

“The vehicle rolled over several times after crashing into barriers that were left on the road for construction,” Izharul Hassan had said. The car in which Farooq Sattar and his associates as well as guards were traveling, was bulletproof.

“Farooq bhai is safe, he has sustained injuries to his head, back and shoulder,” he said, adding that four other people travelling with the MQM leader were injured. “A police guard is in critical condition, he has been moved to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital” he said.

Khawaja Izharul Hassan disclosed that Farooq Sattar had suffered internal injuries from the accident and would be taken to the hospital for his X-ray scan.

Dr Farooq Sattar was shifted to the AO Clinic in North Nazimabad, where a large number of party loyalists and well-wishers had gathered to inquire after the health of the MQM Pakistan chief. His wife was also present at the clinic as Farooq Sattar was carried out from the vehicle on a stretcher and shifted to the Emergency department of the hospital.

The orthopedic surgeon and neurosurgeon of AO clinic were put on standby at the AO Clinic, when Sattar was first brought to the clinic before being transferred to Liaquat National Hospital.

Doctors operating on Dr Farooq Sattar disclosed that the MQM Pakistan chief had suffered from a hairline fracture in the accident that had taken place.

According to details, doctors stated that Farooq Sattar had spoken to them and complained of experiencing a severe headache after the accident had taken place. Doctors had also confirmed that the MQM Pakistan chief had suffered a hairline fracture due to the accident. Khawaja Izharul Hassan had claimed that Dr Farooq Sattar had also suffered internal injuries due to the accident.

Meanwhile, injured guards Wasim and Shakeel, who were also traveling with Dr Farooq Sattar in the vehicle, were shifted to a private hospital for CT scans. Speaking to Geo News, Wasim said that the car had overturned immediately, causing damage to the vehicle. (PhotoNews / The News)
