Washington said Tuesday that the Iran ceasefire remained in place despite an exchange of fire near the Strait of Hormuz after US forces moved to escort stranded tankers through the waterway.

The US military said it destroyed six Iranian small boats, as well as cruise missiles and drones, during President Donald Trump’s “Project Freedom” operation.

Iranian Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf warned the United States that Tehran had “not even started yet,” saying on X that the current status quo was “intolerable for America.”

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said peace talks were progressing through Pakistan’s mediation and warned the US and the United Arab Emirates against entering a “quagmire.”

"We're in a little military skirmish. I call it a skirmish because Iran has no chance. They never did. They know it," US President Donald Trump told reporters at the Oval Office.

Araqchi was travelling to Beijing on Tuesday for talks with his Chinese counterpart, according to Iran’s foreign ministry.

Iranian authorities released a map claiming expanded maritime control beyond the Strait of Hormuz, including sections of the UAE coastline near Fujairah and Khorfakkan.

The UAE said Iranian drone and missile attacks on Monday, including one that caused a fire at Fujairah oil port, marked a serious escalation and said it reserved the right to respond.

Iranian state television said military officials confirmed attacks on the UAE and described them as a response to US military actions in the strait.

US and Iranian officials have held one round of face-to-face peace talks, but no further meetings have been scheduled.

Iranian state media said the US had conveyed a response to Tehran’s 14-point proposal through Pakistan. A senior Pakistani official said backdoor diplomacy was continuing.
