NEW DELHI: AI spiritual guidance is expanding through chatbots, religious-text platforms and digital guru avatars as users seek around-the-clock access to advice on grief, relationships and questions of faith.
Among the platforms is GitaGPT, founded by Gurugram-based Vikas Sahu. Its website describes the service as an AI spiritual companion that provides responses grounded in the Bhagavad Gita and other Indic traditions.
Prominent spiritual teachers are also adopting the technology. Associated Press reported that Sadhguru’s Miracle of the Mind app includes an interactive AI feature based on his teachings.
Deepak Chopra offers “Digital Deepak,” an AI system developed from his writings and talks. Digital Deepak was originally unveiled in 2019, featuring AI Foundation technology.
Sadhguru has also experimented with a three-dimensional AI avatar. Proto Hologram said its technology allowed visitors at a 2026 event in India to converse with a digital version of the spiritual teacher and use an interactive selfie feature.

Other projects combine AI with access to human teachers. Bengaluru-based Inner verse 360 offers applications that draw on texts including the Bhagavad Gita and the Upanishads, alongside moderated sessions with spiritual teachers.
However, religion scholars caution against treating generated answers as equivalent to human spiritual instruction. Northeastern University religion professor Elizabeth Bucar told AP that sacred texts require interpretation through community and context.

Critics also warn that conversational AI can generate incorrect information or reinforce a user’s assumptions rather than challenge them.
The Self-Realization Fellowship told AP it was approaching AI cautiously and wanted safeguards against responses that depart from Paramahansa Yogananda’s teachings.
