Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green said Sunday that he made a recruiting pitch to LeBron James, urging the NBA’s all-time scoring leader to join Golden State next season.
Green said on his podcast that he raised the subject while spending time with James and delivered what he described as a strong proposal. He acknowledged that he did not know whether the conversation would influence James’ decision.
James, 41, has informed the Los Angeles Lakers that he will play elsewhere during the 2026-27 season, ending an eight-year spell that included the 2020 NBA championship. He is preparing for a record-extending 24th NBA season.
Green said he did not believe James had selected his next team. However, he suggested that the details of his proposal could prompt the four-time NBA Most Valuable Player to reconsider his options.
A move to the Golden State would unite James with Stephen Curry, his longtime rival and teammate on the United States team that won gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr coached that Olympic team.

Golden State is among the teams expected to pursue James, alongside the Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers. The Philadelphia 76ers and Minnesota Timberwolves have also been linked with the four-time NBA champion.
Green, a four-time NBA champion, said his pitch focused on what James could experience alongside the Warriors’ established core. James has yet to announce where he will play next season.
