BLACK ROCK CITY, United States: Two Burning Man deaths occurred within roughly 24 hours as tens of thousands gathered for the final days of the Nevada desert festival.
Festival organisers identified the second participant as Craigh Mann, 60. His campmates found him dead at his camp at about 3 p.m. Saturday, September 5, according to the Burning Man Project.
Organisers had announced the first death Friday evening. A man in his mid-50s suffered an unspecified medical emergency and received lifesaving treatment before emergency crews took him to the festival’s on-site care centre.
Medical staff pronounced him dead at the centre. Organisers withheld his identity because his family had not yet been notified and provided no further details about the medical emergency.
The Burning Man Project expressed condolences after both deaths and said support services remained available around the clock for people at Black Rock City. The Pershing County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Burning Man 2026 began August 30 and was scheduled to conclude Monday. The temporary desert gathering can draw as many as 80,000 participants and traditionally ends with the burning of a large wooden effigy.
