China set two World records with a breathtaking display of 10,197 drones in Shenzhen, demonstrating significant technological prowess.
Under the theme “The City of Sky, Maybe Shenzhen” at Shenzhen Bay Park, the event set records for the most multi-rotors/drones airborne simultaneously from a single computer (outdoors) and created the largest aerial image formed by multi-rotors/drones. The highlight was the depiction of a floating “Sky City.”
The drones crafted intricate patterns and images featuring iconic Shenzhen landmarks and elements, including Wing Chun motifs—signifying the city’s promising future. Following the display, “cyber fireworks” depicted Shenzhen as a hub of miracles and innovation.
This spectacle, part of China’s National Day holiday celebrations, spanned seven days and illuminated five city districts nightly with over 10,000 drones. Even Elon Musk lauded the achievement, noting China’s leadership in drone technology.
Weeks earlier, a similar feat involved 7,598 drones in the Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, forming images like The Great Wall and a dragon. The drones, controlled from a single laptop, precisely executed these complex aerial images.
Earlier in the year, the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) introduced the China Company Transformation Indicator (CCTI), emphasizing China’s impact on technology and pharmaceuticals. The report ranked major tech firms like Baidu and Alibaba at the top, highlighting China’s strides in semiconductor and security technology through companies like SMIC and Hikvision.
This growing technological influence underscores China’s expansive role in global tech industries. The IMD noted potential economic growth in traditional sectors like real estate and exports during the Year of the Dragon.
