TEHRAN, Iran, Middle East: An Iran offensive strategy is taking shape after the 60-day ceasefire with the United States expired.

According to officials, TRT World reported that Iranian officials have described a shift from defence toward a more offensive posture. One official told Reuters that Tehran must prepare for tougher decisions in the Strait of Hormuz and the wider region.

Political scientist Mohammed Eslami of the European University Institute said the change had already occurred “practically and institutionally.”

He pointed to recent security appointments by Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei. These included former Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander Mohsen Rezaee, who held a senior national security role.

With the US-Iran ceasefire over, Tehran says it is shifting from defence to offence, a strategy analysts say could expand the conflict through regional allies, increase pressure on US forces and raise the cost of war for Washington

Meanwhile, analyst Esam Alahmadi said Iran would likely avoid a conventional war with Washington. Instead, Tehran could rely on missiles, drones and regional allies.

That approach could increase pressure on US bases and naval assets. It could also widen tensions from the Strait of Hormuz to Bab el-Mandeb, Alahmadi said.

Analysts said Tehran may aim to raise the political, military and economic cost of a prolonged conflict rather than defeat the United States directly.

However, they also warned of the risks of major escalation. Alahmadi said heavy US casualties or the loss of an American vessel could trigger a much broader US response against Iranian infrastructure.
