The Hayden Panettiere death investigation remains open, but Greenville police said a Wednesday welfare check at Brian Hickerson’s family home was unrelated to the actor’s death.
Officers visited the Hickerson family residence on August 19 and attempted to contact people inside. A Greenville Police Department spokesperson told PEOPLE that the visit was a welfare check and did not require an incident report.
Panettiere, 36, was found unresponsive at a Greenville, South Carolina, apartment on August 16. Emergency personnel performed CPR before she was pronounced dead shortly after 2:30 p.m., according to a police report obtained by the Associated Press and CBS News.
Brian Hickerson and his brother Zach Hickerson were at the apartment when officers arrived. Police said surveillance footage showed Panettiere and the brothers entering and leaving the property.
CBS News reported that Brian showed an officer a bag containing medication Panettiere had reportedly been taking. The medication names were redacted from the released report, and authorities have not established whether any substance contributed to her death.
Dispatch communications referenced a possible overdose and cardiac arrest, but neither has been confirmed as the cause of death.

An autopsy found no trauma that explained Panettiere’s death. Police initially reported no apparent signs of foul play, while the Greenville County Coroner’s Office has not yet determined the official cause or manner of death.
TMZ reported that investigators were examining whether criminal conduct played any role. Authorities, however, have announced no arrests, charges or suspects in connection with Panettiere’s death.
