A China Earthquake killed two people and collapsed 13 buildings in Liuzhou, Guangxi region, after a 5.2-magnitude quake struck early Monday, state media reported.
The quake hit Liuzhou at 12:21 a.m. local time, or 9:21 p.m. PKT on Sunday, according to state news agency Xinhua.
State broadcaster CCTV identified the victims as a 63-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman. It said one person remained missing as search-and-rescue operations continued.
Authorities evacuated more than 7,000 people from the affected area, CCTV reported.
CCTV footage showed residents fleeing from high-rise buildings, with rubble lying beside damaged homes. Rescue workers and dogs searched the debris for signs of life.
Emergency teams also used earthmovers to clear wreckage from collapsed structures.
Earthquakes occur relatively often in China. In January, a major quake in the remote Tibet region killed at least 126 people and damaged thousands of buildings.
