LOS ANGELES, United States: “The Debut” Oscar song campaign will centre on a track written by filmmaker Jesse Eisenberg and performed by actor Julianne Moore, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Eisenberg wrote all seven original songs featured in the A24 film, accounting for nearly an hour of music. The movie recently premiered at the Telluride Film Festival.
A24 plans to prioritise “This City May Have Chewed Me Up (But It Hasn’t Spit Me Out)” for best original song consideration. Moore performs the track in the film.
The studio could submit additional songs from “The Debut,” although the Moore-performed track remains its main awards prospect.
“The Debut” is Eisenberg’s third directorial feature and stars Moore as a housewife cast in a community theatre production. Paul Giamatti also appears in the film.

Composer Emile Mosseri, who received an Oscar nomination for his score for “Minari,” created the original score for “The Debut.”

The film will next screen at festivals in Toronto, New York and Zurich. Moore is also due to receive a lifetime achievement award in Zurich. A24 plans a limited theatrical release on December 11, followed by a wider Christmas release.
