Asif Ali Zardari sought presidential immunity regarding the Thatta water supply project case by pleading with the accountability court.
Zardari, who assumed the presidency for the second time on March 10 after defeating SIC-supported Mahmood Khan Achakzai, represents a coalition including PML-N, PPP, MQM-P, IPP, PML-Q, and BAP.
Through his attorney, Arshad Tabraiz, Zardari argued in front of AC Judge Nasir Javed Rana that the case proceedings against him should be halted due to his presidential immunity. Following, the court adjourned and issued a notice to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for a hearing on April 22.
It’s important to note that NAB has implicated Zardari and others, including former secretary Ejaz Ahmed Khan and several officials, in the reference. NAB’s investigation focuses on the alleged illicit contract award for the Thatta water supply scheme by the Special Initiative Department to a private contractor.
