ISLAMABAD: Pakistan monsoon floods killed at least 12 people and injured 15 across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab, according to reports compiled on Tuesday.

Heavy rain caused rivers and streams to overflow, while landslides damaged homes, bridges and roads during the second intense spell of the monsoon season.

In Mardan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, two children died when the roof of a house collapsed during rainfall. Rescue personnel shifted an injured woman and a girl to a hospital.

Flash floods swept away vehicles in Khyber district and submerged part of the Pakistan-Afghanistan Highway, disrupting traffic. Authorities also reported damage to three connecting bridges, as well as to homes and hotels in northern areas.

A landslide at Sehuch blocked the Naran–Jalkhad Road in Kaghan Valley, leaving tourists stranded. Rising water in the Kunhar River also increased the threat to nearby low-lying communities.

In Neelum Valley, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the Kathapiran stream overflowed, carrying large boulders downstream, alarming residents living near the waterway.

Punjab authorities ordered people living near the Chenab River in Wazirabad to evacuate as water levels rose. Officials also issued a low-level flood warning for Chiniot.
