Samsung Electronics cut jobs across its US consumer-electronics business as it moves its American headquarters from New Jersey to Texas, affecting 739 roles in Englewood Cliffs and about 100 workers in Plano.
Samsung told Reuters that most of the 739 affected employees received relocation offers, while others lost their jobs. The company did not disclose the total number of layoffs.
About 100 employees at Samsung Electronics America’s Plano office were laid off, including staff from its mobile division, according to a person familiar with the reductions.
Documents reviewed by Reuters showed that Samsung notified some employees on June 30 of an “enterprise-wide reduction-in-force” involving a significant number of roles.
More than 30 employees, including senior sales and marketing officials in New Jersey and Texas, disclosed departures or layoffs through LinkedIn posts reviewed by Reuters.
Samsung said the headquarters move could alter its workforce, with employees unable to relocate or functions reorganised around business priorities. The company said no broad global restructuring was underway in its consumer-products business.
The relocation follows Samsung’s decision to transfer its US headquarters from Englewood Cliffs to its existing Plano campus by the end of 2026. The company had opened its New Jersey offices less than a year earlier.
The cuts come as Samsung’s semiconductor division benefits from AI-driven chip demand, while its mobile, television and appliance operations face higher component costs and competition from Apple, TCL and Hisense.

Samsung Electronics employed 11,770 people in the United States at the end of 2025, including semiconductor workers. Samsung SDS America has separately flagged 179 potentially affected roles in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey, but Samsung said those changes resulted from relocation rather than layoffs or restructuring
