Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi criticised Lebanese President Joseph Aoun after the Lebanese leader’s remarks about Tehran’s role in Lebanon.
Araghchi responded on X after Aoun discussed Iran and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps during a CNN interview.
The Iranian foreign minister said Aoun’s comments created the impression that Iran was responsible for Lebanon’s current challenges.
“Based on Mr Aoun’s comments, one would think it’s Iran that has occupied 1/5 of Lebanon, displaced 1/4 of the Lebanese and is bombing his country on a daily basis,” Araghchi wrote.
He also rejected the idea that Tehran uses Lebanon as leverage in negotiations. “Had Lebanon been a bargaining chip for Iran, we’d have a deal long ago,” Araghchi said.

Araghchi urged Aoun to focus on what he called Beirut’s “real foe.” The exchange highlights growing public differences between Beirut and Tehran as regional tensions continue across the Middle East.
