Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said President Donald Trump’s Beirut claim showed direct U.S. involvement in Israel’s actions in Lebanon.
Gharibabadi was responding on the social media platform X to Trump’s reported claim that he persuaded Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to launch a major attack on Beirut.
Axios reported that Trump pressed Netanyahu during a tense call over the Lebanon escalation.
The Iranian official said developments in Lebanon, Syria and occupied al-Quds showed what he called Israel’s “crimes and impunity.”
He also urged the United Nations Security Council to move beyond statements of concern. He called for binding punitive measures against Israel.
Gharibabadi said a decision to attack the capital of a sovereign state should not depend on a single phone call.
