Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said AI regulation should focus on practical, demonstrated harm rather than theoretical risks, according to remarks shared from the G20 Innovation Summit.

Huang advised policymakers to “regulate practical and actual harm” instead of theoretical or hypothetical harm as governments consider rules for rapidly developing artificial intelligence systems.

The Nvidia Corporation (NASDAQ: NVDA) chief also argued that countries need to move quickly as AI technology advances.

According to media reports, Huang said nations risk falling behind if adoption and infrastructure development move too slowly. He described domestic AI computing capacity as increasingly important for national technology ecosystems.

Huang encouraged governments to build local data centres and digital intelligence infrastructure to support research, businesses and startups. Huang also highlighted India’s established information-technology sector.

He encouraged Indian companies and startups to participate more directly in developing AI technology rather than relying solely on existing tools, according to the remarks provided.

On employment, Huang’s comments presented AI primarily as a technology that will automate individual tasks and reshape workflows rather than eliminate the basic need for human work.

His regulatory position favours addressing measurable consequences as they emerge while avoiding restrictions based solely on speculative risks.
