BAGH, Azad Jammu and Kashmir: A Tanveer Ilyas convoy attack reportedly killed one guard and injured others on Friday, according to the former regional prime minister’s spokesperson.
Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Deputy Inspector General of Police Raja Akmal said authorities had received reports of firing on Sardar Tanveer Ilyas’s convoy in Bagh district.
The casualty information came from Ilyas’s spokesperson, Akmal said. Police had launched an investigation and would act against those responsible, according to the initial police account reported
Authorities did not immediately identify the attackers or disclose a possible motive. Police also released no further details about the injured people in the initial statement.

The firing occurred 10 days before elections to the 53-member AJK Legislative Assembly. Polling is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 27, according to the APP election schedule.
Ilyas joined the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) earlier in July. He had resigned from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) following differences over the allocation of election tickets.
The former prime minister had sought PPP nominations from constituencies including Bagh-II, Poonch-V and Neelum-I.
