Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of the Grand Theft Auto series, has officially closed Intercept Games, the studio responsible for developing Kerbal Space Program 2.
Intercept Games was developing “Kerbal Space Program 2,” the sequel to the popular space-flight simulation game. The sequel promised new parts, enhanced visuals, a revamped user interface, and new exploration environments.
Although there were plans to release Kerbal Space Program 2 on consoles like its predecessor in 2015, Intercept Games’ closure makes its debut highly unlikely.
Take-Two has also closed Roll7, the studio known for publishing games like OlliOlli World and Rollerdrome.
In a statement, Take-Two Interactive spokesperson Alan Lewis said, “On April 16th, Take-Two announced a cost reduction program to find efficiencies across its business to improve the company’s profit margins while still pursuing growth.”
Last month, the company announced the layoff of approximately 5% of its workforce, around 600 employees, and the cancellation of $140 million in projects.
According to a Bloomberg report, Take-Two filed an end-of-business SEC report detailing a plan to save over $165 million annually through reduced expenses and curtailed projected expense growth in the coming years.
Rockstar Games anticipates releasing GTA 6 in the first quarter of 2025. However, recent reports suggest a possible delay to 2026 due to development setbacks.
It is important to note that while the announced release dates for GTA 6 refer to console versions, PC gamers might have to wait longer. The previous instalment, Grand Theft Auto 5, was launched on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2013, and it reached PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2014 but did not arrive on PC until 2015.
