ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad chief commissioner has asked the Supreme Court to urgently hear the Imran Khan review petition challenging its August 18 order for his transfer from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital.
The application asks the court to review, amend and withdraw its earlier directions concerning Khan’s transfer, medical examination and treatment through a medical panel.
It argues that the dispute raises questions of legal and constitutional jurisdiction, including the effect of the 27th Constitutional Amendment, Article 175(2) of the Constitution and applicable prison laws.
The applicant said an early hearing was necessary because the Supreme Court’s August 18 order was time-bound. That order required Adiala Jail authorities to transfer the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder to Shifa Hospital within two days.
The court had also ordered the formation of a medical board and allowed Khan’s sister, Dr Uzma Khan, and his personal physician to attend his assessment and treatment.
Separately, the federal government had already filed a review petition arguing that the Supreme Court exceeded its jurisdiction and overlooked relevant statutory provisions when issuing the transfer order.
PTI has filed a contempt petition alleging non-compliance with the August 18 directions and has sought Khan’s immediate transfer to Shifa International Hospital.

The government instead took Khan to PIMS for examination before returning him to Adiala Jail. Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar later said doctors had declared Khan medically fit.
