Five-time NBA All-Star Klay Thompson is set to join the Miami Heat after clearing waivers following a buyout agreement with the Dallas Mavericks.
Thompson agreed to a two-year contract following the settlement reached with Dallas on Friday, August 21. It gives the deal a $13 million value, although one sentence inconsistently identifies the Mavericks, rather than Miami, as the contracting team.
Thompson, 36, had been due about $17 million in the final season of his Dallas contract before the two sides reached the buyout agreement.
The four-time NBA champion spent two seasons with the Mavericks, averaging 12.9 points per game and shooting 38.7% from three-point range.
Thompson appeared in 141 regular-season games for Dallas after joining the Mavericks in a sign-and-trade following the 2023-24 season.
He previously spent 13 seasons with the Golden State Warriors and remains among the NBA’s leading three-point shooters.
