Fans marked Star Wars Day on May 4 as new Nielsen data showed viewers streamed 33 billion minutes of “Star Wars” content in 2025, equal to about 550 million hours.
The annual celebration uses the phrase “May the 4th Be With You,” a play on the franchise’s well-known line, “May the Force be with you.” Disney+ remained the franchise’s main streaming home.
Nielsen data showed “Star Wars” films accounted for 44.2% of total viewing time. Live-action series accounted for 38.9%, animation for 16.8%, and documentaries for 0.2%.
Among the films, “A New Hope” led viewing, followed by “The Phantom Menace” and “Rogue One.” In the live-action category, “Andor” ranked first with 7.4 billion minutes viewed.
The franchise also outlined new content for 2026. “Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu” will stream on Disney+, while “Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu” has a theatrical release planned for the same year.
Disney store announced Star Wars Day merchandise drops, including an animatronic Grogu, a Darth Vader collection, Starbucks mugs and Mandalorian helmets. Collectables such as the Boushh Helmet, based on Princess Leia’s disguise in “Return of the Jedi,” also featured in holiday promotions.

Fans also joined events tied to the celebration. Disneyland After Dark: Star Wars Nite was confirmed for May 4 and May 6, while New York City and other major cities hosted themed trivia nights. The Academy Museum of Los Angeles also scheduled crafting and cosplay-based science activities.
