AMMAN, Jordan: An Iranian F-35 strike claim said ballistic missiles destroyed three US fighter jets at a Jordanian airbase on July 30, but Amman reported intercepting all five incoming missiles without casualties.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said its Aerospace Force targeted Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, also known as Al-Azraq Air Base, in Jordan’s eastern desert.

The IRGC’s Statement No. 55 claimed that missiles struck a parking apron and maintenance hangars used by US F-35 aircraft. It said three jets were destroyed and three others sustained heavy damage.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said on Thursday that a ballistic missile strike destroyed three US F-35 fighter jets and severely damaged three others at Jordan’s al-Azraq air base.

The Guards said that several US officers and maintenance personnel were killed.

The statement also alleged that the strike killed several US officers and maintenance personnel. However, no US or independent source had corroborated those losses by the time of publication.

The Jordan Armed Forces said through the state-run Petra News Agency that air defences detected and destroyed five Iranian missiles early Thursday.

Jordan said the interception prevented the missiles from reaching their targets and caused no casualties. However, its statement did not identify the intended target or directly address the IRGC’s aircraft-damage claim.

The IRGC said it launched the operation in retaliation for US strikes on two homes on Iran’s Qeshm Island. It claimed those strikes killed two adults and a child and wounded two other children, according to Mehr News Agency.

On July 30, US Central Command said it had completed strikes against dozens of IRGC targets inside Iran.

CENTCOM said that the operation answered attempted Iranian missile attacks on July 28. Its statement did not confirm the reported Qeshm casualties or address the later Iran F-35 strike claim.
