Singer Ariana Grande said during an August 3 concert in Chicago that her planned break from public-facing work was a considered decision rather than a reaction to recent events.

Grande addressed fans at the United Centre after her representative confirmed she would reduce her visibility once the “Eternal Sunshine” tour concludes. She described the move as “not a reactive or impulsive thing.”

The 33-year-old artist said she had made the decision privately some time ago. She also rejected suggestions that online negativity had damaged her experience of the tour.

Grande said people can require stronger personal boundaries while still valuing their work. She described the tour as an important professional and creative experience and said she intended to complete it in a positive way.

Her representative said the break would begin after the tour ends in London on September 1. Grande also withdrew from the planned 2027 West End production of Stephen Sondheim’s “Sunday in the Park With George.”

The announcement followed the July 31 release of “Petal,” Grande’s eighth studio album. The project was released through Babydoll Music under an exclusive Republic Records licence.

Grande had previously urged people to avoid making assumptions about another person’s life or health based on physical appearance. The supplied report said recent online discussions had renewed those concerns.
