The Sindh government has intensified efforts to install GPS trackers on heavy vehicles like dumpers and water tankers to enhance road safety and curb traffic accidents in Karachi.
The Sindh government has also launched a robust traffic enforcement campaign to target violations and improve city road discipline.
As of May 4, 2025, Sindh authorities have equipped 6,617 heavy vehicles with GPS trackers, including 3,391 water tankers, 2,763 large trucks, 214 passenger buses, 214 small trucks, 137 trailers, 82 oil tankers, and 28 dumpers. This initiative, driven by the Sindh government, monitors vehicle movements to reduce accidents and ensure compliance with traffic regulations, enhancing safety across Karachi’s busy streets.
Following the Chief Minister’s directives, the Traffic Police have escalated enforcement since April 9, impounding 31,677 motorcycles for violations. Authorities also acted against 2,719 vehicles with fancy number plates or tinted windows and seized 515 non-compliant large and small vehicles. Motor Vehicle Inspectors recommended cancelling 25 vehicle registrations and temporarily suspending 491 others, pending conditional release, to enforce stricter traffic discipline.
