The Sindh government has launched a stringent crackdown on heavy vehicles, requiring immediate inspections to ensure compliance with new fitness certificate mandates.

According to Sharjeel Memon, the provincial Excise Minister. In a press briefing on Thursday, Memon emphasized that all heavy vehicles, especially those entering from other provinces, must now obtain a fitness certificate recognized by Sindh authorities.

Memon detailed that the initiative is in full effect, with authorities directed to conduct thorough inspections of heavy vehicles. Vehicle owners have been given a 30-day window to secure the necessary fitness certificates for their vehicles. This move aims to enhance road safety and vehicle reliability across the province.

The Sindh government has also targeted heavy vehicles, requiring them to display a specific bar code to operate. “Any water tanker without a bar code will face restrictions, and we will also check their fitness,” Memon stated, underlining the government’s commitment to strictly enforcing these regulations.

The fitness certificate requirement extends beyond heavy vehicles, with Memon clarifying that every type of vehicle, from motorbikes to trucks, must comply. “Any vehicle lacking this certification will be deemed unfit for the roads,” he warned.

Memon also addressed the issue of uncollected vehicle number plates, noting that 80,000 plates are ready but remain unclaimed. He urged citizens to collect their plates from the excise department promptly.

Further tightening regulations, Memon announced stringent measures for vehicle showrooms, stating, “Vehicles can only leave showrooms post-registration. Any showroom found selling unregistered vehicles will be sealed.” This measure is intended to curb the practice of unregistered vehicles hitting the roads, which poses significant safety and administrative challenges.
