To blow off some steam at an otherwise tense high-level security meeting held in Karachi on Wednesday, Prime Minister, Mian Nawaz Sharif, poked fun at the octogenarian (80+) Chief Minister of Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah for dragging heels on the alarming law & order situation in the metropolis. “Zardari Sahib, please give Shah Sahib an ‘energy drink'”, he said pointedly making a reference to the painfully slow anti-crimeoperation in Karachi.
The cricket-loving Sharif said that, “being the captain of the Karachi law enforcement operation, CM Sindh should be playing a T-20 match instead of a Test.”
The prime minister raised the question about last meeting’s orders like the issuance of red warrants for dangerous criminals, construction of a high-profile jail in Jamshoro, purchase of arms, shifting of anti-terrorism court to Malir Cantt, hearing of cases under PPO, etc.
“I want all these orders actioned as soon as possible”, Sharif said.
The Chief Secretary Sindh assured the prime minister of implementation of these orders on war-footings.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief of the Army Staff, General Raheel Sharif, said that Pakistan Army was ready to provide any kind of support to the federal and provincial governments with hundred percent honesty and sincerity.
