Officiating President Sadiq Sanjrani declared a substantial increase in the monthly remuneration of Supreme Court judges in Pakistan. The directive was issued on Tuesday and is titled “Salary of Judges of the Supreme Court Order, 2023”.

According to this latest notification, the Chief Justice of Pakistan’s monthly salary (CJP) will surge, amounting to Rs1,229,189. In addition, the order stipulates a monthly pay of Rs1,161,163 for the other Supreme Court judges.

As quoted from the directive, “In exercise of the powers conferred … There shall be paid to the Chief Justice of Pakistan a salary of Rs.1,229,189 per mensem and to every other Judge of the Supreme Court a salary of Rs.1,161,163 per month.”

The order immediately repealed the previous directive that governed the judges’ salaries. As per the announcement in the directive, “The Salary of Judges of the Supreme Court Order, 2022 (PO No. 1 of 2022), is hereby repealed.”

Before the new order was enacted, the CJP was paid a monthly salary of Rs1,024,324, and the other Supreme Court judges received Rs9,67,636 each month.

Pakistan Supreme Court Judge’s Earnings

Earlier in the year, it was reported that the remuneration of Supreme Court judges surpasses that of the president and the prime minister, ministers, federal secretaries, and parliamentarians. This information was part of the data submitted to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in May.

Based on the previous salary figures, the breakdown of the salaries revealed that the CJP was the highest earner, followed by the other Supreme Court judges. The president was third in line, and surprisingly, the prime minister’s salary was lower than that of ministers and federal secretaries.

In a PAC meeting, Chairman Noor Alam Khan disclosed that the president’s monthly salary was Rs896,550, the prime minister was Rs201,574, and the federal ministers’ was Rs338,125. Additionally, he revealed that a parliamentarian earned Rs188,000 per month, while a grade-22 officer received Rs591,475 monthly.
