GILGIT: A Spantik recovery team found Pakistani climber Asma Mushtaq’s body near Camp 3 on Monday, 11 days after she died while descending the 7,027-metre peak.
Alpine Club of Pakistan Secretary General Ayaz Shigri said rescuers located the body at about 6,250 metres. The team began searching at 3 am PKT and found Mushtaq at about 11 am after an eight-hour operation.
Mushtaq, 34, died on August 20 after developing a serious high-altitude medical emergency during her descent. The Alpine Club said she had successfully reached Spantik’s summit before falling ill at roughly 6,400 meters.

The latest recovery mission began on Friday after heavy snowfall frustrated earlier attempts. Shigri said high-altitude volunteers from Arandu in Shigar carried out the operation and funded the effort themselves.

Shigri identified Abbas Ali as the operation leader. The rescuers planned to bring Mushtaq’s body down to Camp 2 before continuing toward base camp.
Pakistan Army helicopters were expected to airlift the body from base camp to Skardu once the ground team completed the descent. Earlier weather conditions had prevented rescuers from safely reaching and searching Camp 3.
