BROAD PEAK: Local rescue volunteers found the body of US climber Sarah Mallory Geis on Friday, weeks after a July 30 avalanche struck her international expedition.
Alpine Club of Pakistan President Major General (retired) Irfan Arshad Khan confirmed the recovery and said rescuers were shifting the body to base camp.
Meanwhile, ACP General Secretary Ayaz Shigri told the media that local porters travelling with a trekking team had voluntarily joined the search.
Shigri said rescuers identified the body as Geis. Afterwards, Pakistan Army helicopters are expected to airlift it from base camp to Skardu.

Geis was part of a 10-member expedition led by British-Nepali mountaineer Nirmal Purja. The avalanche cut off contact with the team on July 30, and Purja’s company later said there were no survivors.
Earlier, recovery teams found eight bodies, including that of Pakistani climber Sohail Sakhi. Nepalese climber Nawang Thindu Sherpa remains missing. Shigri said search efforts for him would continue.
