During the exchange, one fan asked Crowe to sign as “Maximus,” the Roman general he played in “Gladiator.” Crowe declined with a brief “No.”
The clip prompted criticism from some social media users, who called the actor rude and disrespectful. Others defended him, saying he set boundaries while still signing items and posing for selfies.

Crowe responded Tuesday by reposting a TMZ story and calling the coverage “clickbait.” He said everyone received an autograph and a selfie, the hotel passage remained clear for guests, and he still made it to the airport on time.
