NAYPYIDAW, Myanmar: President Min Aung Hlaing left for Moscow on Monday for his first official visit to Russia since assuming Myanmar’s presidency in April, state media said.
The trip includes a Myanmar-Russia business forum. State media said the delegation also includes Tanintharyi Region’s chief minister and the head of Myanmar’s aerospace agency.
Russia and Myanmar have expanded cooperation in energy and infrastructure. The two countries signed an agreement in 2025 to build a small-scale nuclear power plant in Myanmar.
They also signed a memorandum in February 2025 covering investment cooperation at the Dawei Special Economic Zone. The source says the plans include port and energy infrastructure.

Min Aung Hlaing previously visited Russia four times as junta chief. His March 2025 trip included formal talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.

Defence ties have also grown. According to the supplied report, Moscow has provided military training, scholarships and arms to Myanmar’s armed forces.
