KYIV, Ukraine: Russia strikes Kyiv with missiles and drones on Sunday after Ukraine attacked a space facility in Russia’s Samara region, leaving at least three people injured in the capital.
The strikes set fire to a large book market and hit several buildings across Kyiv with explosions before 3 a.m. and another salvo before 10 a.m. local time.
Russia also struck Kryvyi Rih, Kamianske and Kremenchuk. One person died in Kryvyi Rih, while more than a dozen suffered injuries, according to the supplied report.
The attacks followed a Ukrainian strike on a space centre in Russia’s Samara region on Saturday. Ukraine used domestically produced Flamingo cruise missiles in the attack.

The facility produces Soyuz-2 launch vehicles used for Russia’s Rassvet satellite programme, according to the report. Moscow hopes the system can provide satellite internet services.
Ukraine also launched drones toward the Moscow region on Sunday. A fire broke out at a Wildberries warehouse in Koledino, while local reports also cited a strike near Domodedovo.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said Ukraine launched 600 drones toward the capital. Russia’s defence ministry separately claimed air defences intercepted 822 Ukrainian drones nationwide overnight.
Romania’s defence ministry also said a Spanish F-18 on a NATO air-policing mission shot down a drone after it entered Romanian airspace through Moldova. The ministry did not identify the drone’s origin.
