The Running Point Season 2 finale ended with major twists, setting up a dramatic new chapter for Netflix’s sports comedy series.
Created by Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen, Running Point follows Isla Gordon, played by Kate Hudson, as she leads the Los Angeles Waves basketball team as its first female president. Season 2 pushed Isla deeper into the pressures of family politics, team leadership, and life inside professional sports.
The finale delivered one of the show’s biggest conflicts so far when Isla’s brother Cam, played by Justin Theroux, tried to take control of the Waves. His move to replace Isla as president created a tense family showdown and raised the stakes for the team’s future.
Isla fought back by using a recording in which Cam admitted to manipulating his sobriety tests. The revelation helped remove him from the organisation and allowed Isla to hold her position.
The Waves then capped the season with a championship victory, giving Isla a major professional win. However, the celebration did not last long. Cam announced the return of the Los Angeles Industry basketball team, setting up a fierce rivalry for Season 3.
The finale also opened new personal storylines. Isla’s relationship with coach Jay Brown, played by Jay Ellis, appears to be moving toward romance, adding another layer of tension inside the organisation.
Elsewhere, the show continued to explore Ali and Ness’s relationships, while Jackie started a new chapter by joining the European scouting trip. Marcus Winfield also faced a devastating setback after suffering a career-ending injury.
With a championship win, a revived rival team, family betrayal, and shifting relationships, Running Point Season 2 leaves several major questions for Season 3. The next season is expected to build on the show’s mix of sports action, comedy, and family drama as Isla faces her biggest challenge yet.
