Lahore, Punjab: Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat said authorities will take a final decision on Punjab summer vacations after May 15.
Hayat said the Punjab government has not finalised any official summer holiday schedule and will issue a formal announcement only after approval from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
The government is considering cutting summer vacations by 15 to 20 days and winter holidays by five to six days, according to the source material.
The minister linked the proposal to a plan to increase teaching days from about 180 to around 190 in the academic year. Officials want schools to complete the syllabus on time after classroom disruption earlier this year, according to the source material.

Hayat also said the Friday weekly holiday in schools will not become permanent and will end in the coming weeks. The Punjab government is discussing withdrawing the Friday arrangement with the federal government.
The Friday holiday was introduced under a revised schedule during fuel-cost pressures linked to a wider energy crisis.
Students attended online classes on Fridays instead of physical classes under that arrangement. Hayat had also floated the idea of alternate Saturday openings and separate academic calendars for Matric and O/A Level students.
