LAHORE: Police made an arrest in the Abdullah Tahir murder investigation on Saturday, detaining a TikToker in Sialkot over an alleged honey-trap targeting the slain PTI leader’s driver.
Police identified the suspect as Maria, a resident of Faisalabad. Officers traced her using her mobile number and transferred her to Lahore for questioning, according to the police account provided.
Investigators alleged that the woman was part of a plan to obtain information about Tahir’s movements from his driver, Asghar. Police also claimed that she knew one of the suspected shooters.
The woman contacted the driver through TikTok about two months before the killing. Investigators said they gradually developed a relationship through which she allegedly obtained details about Tahir’s routine.

On July 29, the driver spoke to the woman by video after Tahir reached a private clinic. Police believe the call confirmed Tahir’s location and that his security guard was absent.
Investigators also alleged that the attackers used a drone to monitor Tahir’s movements before the shooting. The Crime Control Department is examining digital records, phone data and reported drone activity.
Two armed men opened fire at the Gulberg clinic before escaping on a motorcycle. Tahir died from multiple gunshot wounds, while Dr Riaz Khan suffered injuries.
Tahir had contested the 2018 Punjab Assembly election from PP-188 Okara on a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ticket.
