LAHORE, Punjab: Police investigating the Abdullah Tahir murder identified a man named Arslan as the alleged main shooter, according to police sources.
Investigators said Arslan obtained a rented car from Gujranwala with help from an alleged facilitator. He then travelled to Lahore with two other suspected shooters.
Another alleged facilitator transported a motorcycle to Lahore and delivered it to the group in Gulberg. Police sources said the suspects used the motorcycle during the attack before fleeing in the rented car.
Police detained six suspected facilitators and seized the car and motorcycle. Investigators said the group had fitted a fake registration plate to the rented vehicle.
Officers were examining Muhammad Abdullah Tahir’s financial and business dealings for a possible motive. Police had not formally established who ordered the killing.

Gunmen killed Tahir at a clinic in Lahore’s Ghalib Market area on July 29. He had travelled from Okara for a medical appointment.
Dr Riaz Khan also suffered a bullet wound during the attack but remained out of danger.
Tahir contested the PP-188 Okara constituency as a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate in the 2018 Punjab Assembly election.
